BackJul 17, 2012

NINE portals from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and its magazine subsidiary have won a swag of accolades in a survey by a marketing industry trade publication.

The survey, conducted by magazine Marketing, sampled 354 respondents, of whom 274 were from client-advertisers. The rest were marketing services agency professionals.

Three-quarters of the client-advertiser respondents were of managerial level and higher.

SPH came out tops in the Business and Finance category, with The Business Times asserting its dominance for the second year in a row.

SPH portal AsiaOne was ranked second in the News category behind MediaCorp's Channel NewsAsia, with The Straits Times in third place. STProperty.sg was second runner-up in the Property category.

SPH Magazines made a clean sweep of four categories, with favourites herworldPlus, Men's Health, HardwareZone and Luxury Insider clinching top spots in the Women, Men, Tech and Luxury categories respectively. Luxury Insider is owned by WhiteWave Media Group, an associate company of SPH Magazines.

Torque magazine placed third in the Car category.

Content and community tech portal HardwareZone held off heavyweights CNET and ZDNet Asia to win first place in the rankings for the second year running.

HardwareZone refreshed its look across its Singapore, Malaysia and Philippine editions in December last year.

Said Mr Loh Yew Seng, SPH Magazines' chief executive: "SPH Magazines' performance in the market survey signals that our foray into new media has been successful, and our new media portals have gained the confidence of marketing professionals."

Mr Alvin Tay, editor of The Business Times, said that digital media is an "intensely competitive space". "We're up against some very savvy players... We hope our philosophy of putting the reader first continues to serve us as well in the digital world as it does in print."
