SPH Magazines has bagged three prizes for its custom-published titles at this year's annual Awards for Publication Excellence (Apex).

Custom publishing refers to publications sponsored by companies and whose content caters to their customers.

The titles which won are linked to Singapore Airlines (SIA), Cold Storage and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

In its 24th year, the awards recognise outstanding work in graphic design, editorial content and ability to achieve overall communication excellence.

Apex is organised by the publisher and editors of Writer's Web Watch, an e-newsletter for communicators who write, edit and manage business publications.

This year's edition received close to 3,400 entries from around the world.

SIA's travel magazine, SilverKris, clinched a grand award in the design and illustration category. Only the top 100 entries each year receive this award.

SilverKris was praised for its stunning, varied spreads which manage to carry through the magazine's central design theme. It was also lauded for its photography and informative captions.

Savour, the quarterly publication of Cold Storage, received an award of excellence in the custom-published magazines and journals category.

Singapore Nautilus, which covers local and international maritime issues, also made waves. MPA's quarterly magazine was honoured for its excellence in illustration and typography.

Mr Dennis Pua, managing director of SPH Magazines, was pleased with the wins. He said: "These international awards reaffirm our strong capabilities in custom publishing and we will certainly continue to raise the bar in producing high-quality publications."
