THE senior executive vice-president of Singapore Press Holdings' Chinese Newspaper Division and the Newspaper Services Division, Mr Robin Hu, has resigned.

Mr Hu joined SPH in 2004 and was behind several editorial products including my paper, a bilingual free sheet; ZbbZ, a bilingual "newsgazine"; and Omy, a Chinese news and entertainment portal.

The former chairman of Sphere Exhibits and deputy chairman of SPH Magazines is pursuing a job offer overseas.

Taking his place on June 1 is Mr Lim Jim Koon, Lianhe Zaobao's editorial advisor and its former editor. He has been in the newspaper industry for 35 years and will become the new editor-in-chief of the Chinese Newspapers Division.

Following Mr Hu's departure, a leadership change will ensue in the Newspaper Services Division's two departments.

The circulation department, helmed by executive vice-president Chua Wee Phong, will now report directly to chief executive officer Alan Chan.

The production department, headed by vice-president Lim Swee Yeow, will report to executive vice-president of technology Low Huan Ping.

Mr Low will also oversee SPH's information technology division.

In a press statement yesterday, Mr Hu said he was grateful for the opportunities he was given at SPH.

"I leave with fond memories, friendship and gratitude to the many people whom I have worked with in an eight- year journey that was both memorable and fruitful."

His colleagues said they were surprised when informed of his exit.

Shin Min Daily News' editor Pan Cheng Lui said Mr Hu was an "innovative and forceful" leader.

"He helped his colleagues achieve what they thought was impossible, and opened up new opportunities and value in what they did," he said in Mandarin.

Hokkien Huay Kuan chair Perng Peck Seng, who met Mr Hu during Chinese culture-related events organised by SPH, said: "He was behind quite a lot of initiatives during his time in the company, so it's a pity he has decided to leave."
