SPH Appoints Two New Independent Directors (ST)
SINGAPORE Press Holdings (SPH) has appointed two new independent directors with effect from tomorrow.
Ms Tan Yen Yen will be a member of the remuneration committee while Mr Bahren Shaari will join the audit committee.
Ms Tan, 46, is a senior vice-president for Oracle Corporation Asia Pacific.
She served as chairman of the Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation from 2009 to 2011 and was deputy chairman on the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (Mica) Internet and Media Advisory Committee.
Ms Tan, who is also on the Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) board and is chairman of Singapore Science Centre, holds a degree in computer science from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and an executive MBA from the Helsinki School of Economics Executive Education.
Mr Bahren, 49, is marketing head of South-east Asia at the Bank of Singapore and has more than 20 years of private banking experience in global financial institutions.
Before joining Bank of Singapore, he was managing director of UBS, where he headed the South-east Asia and Australia marketing team.
He is active in public service and was a board member of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore for 11 years. In 2008, he was conferred the Public Service Medal by the President.
Mr Bahren holds an accountancy degree from NUS.
SPH chairman Lee Boon Yang said: "On behalf of the board, I welcome Yen Yen and Bahren as new members. They bring with them fresh perspectives and valuable experience from different sectors.
"I am confident that they will work closely with the rest of the board to help SPH grow and prosper," he added.
With the inclusion of Ms Tan and Mr Bahren, the SPH board will have 12 members in total.
