SPH Gets 2 New Directors (BT)

SINGAPORE Press Holdings will have two new independent directors – Tan Yen Yen and Bahren Shaari – from April 1. Ms Tan will be a member of the remuneration committee while Mr Shaari will sit on the audit committee.

Ms Tan, 46, is Oracle senior vice-president overseeing applications software business across the Asia-Pacific. She is also a member of the Defence Science and Technology Agency board and chairman of Singapore Science Centre. She was chairman of the Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation (2009-2011) and deputy chairman of the Internet and media advisory committee of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts. She has a computer science degree from National University of Singapore and an executive MBA degree from Helsinki School of Economics Executive Education.

Mr Shaari, 49, is managing director of Bank of Singapore (BOS), head of South-east Asia. He has more than 20 years' private banking experience in global financial institutions. Prior to joining BOS, he was managing director of UBS AG Wealth Management where he headed the South-east Asia and Australia marketing team. He is a Public Service medal recipient, holds an NUS Accountancy degree, is active in public service and was a board member of the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore for 11 years.

SPH chairman Lee Boon Yang said that Ms Tan and Mr Shaari bring with them fresh perspectives and valuable experience from different sectors. "I am confident that they will work closely with the rest of the board to help SPH grow and prosper."
