WEBSITES owned by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) came out tops in the Digital Media of the Year Awards yesterday.

The results were released by the organiser, Marketing Magazine.

AsiaOne emerged as the most preferred digital news portal, with The Straits Times in third place. Channel NewsAsia came second.

SPH's The Business Times emerged tops in the business and finance category.

Mr Willy Tan, head of SPH's Interactive Business Unit, said the results reflected the quality put out by the sites.

"In digital marketing, trust is a key element and this shows the confidence that advertisers have in our sites delivering quality content to an engaged audience," he said.

Besides these sites, classifieds portal ST701, luxury site The Peak, Men's Health, and technology site all came out tops in their respective categories.

A total of 16 categories were judged, and the results were based on surveys of 603 industry respondents made up of advertisers and marketing professionals.

There were also other winners. Facebook, for instance, dominated the social media category, while Google was the preferred search platform.

The BBC won the international news and current affairs category, while the Financial Times clinched the international business and finance section.

AsiaOne's editor Adrian Tay said that although the latest win was another feather in its cap, the team behind the website would not be resting on its laurels.

"We are glad the quality content we put up on the site resonated with the readers. This doesn't mean we'll stop innovating. Already our iPhone app is reaching another breed of readers, and this will come in handy as another platform for advertisers to tap," he said.

Mr Loh Yew Seng, chief executive officer of SPH Magazines, also said the company's websites will continue to improve in a bid to attract more readers and advertisers.

"We are delighted that advertisers and advertising agencies have placed their confidence in us. We have invested much time and resources into our new media portals to make them not just the best websites for our readers, but also the best viable marketing solutions for our advertisers," he said.
