SPH Gives Big With $400,000 Donation To 20 Charities (BT)
SINGAPORE Press Holdings (SPH) and the SPH Foundation yesterday handed out a total of $400,000 to 20 charities.
SPH is donating $200,000 to 10 organisations serving the elderly, while the SPH Foundation is donating $200,000 to 10 organisations supporting children.
Each charity will receive $20,000. Beneficiaries include Hua Mei Care Management Service and the Asian Women's Welfare Association's Readycare Centre.
SPH chairman Tony Tan said the SPH group aims to beat last year's $6 million charity contribution.
The group's other fundraising projects include the Chinese newspapers division's Tang Dynasty Fashion Show next month, which aims to raise $150,000 for the President's Challenge.
The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, also aims to raise $5 million.
Dr Tan said: "In our pursuit of corporate excellence, we have not forgotten the importance of being a good corporate citizen to help the less fortunate in our society."
