SPH Magazines emerged as the biggest winner at the Magazine Publishers Association of Singapore (MPAS) Magazine Awards 2010 on Tuesday, walking away with five gold, eight silver and two bronze awards.

The 15-award haul from the event, held at the Hard Rock Hotel Singapore, was the largest number of awards won by any publisher.

At the top of the honour roll, with its second consecutive win in the Chinese Language Magazine of the Year category, was ICON.

Young Parents (Parenting Magazine of the Year), SilverKris (Best Contract Magazine of the Year) and Shape (Health/Fitness Magazine of the Year) also took the top spots in their categories.

The PEAK Selections: Timepieces was another winner, for Watch Magazine of the Year, a category which saw a clean sweep for SPH Magazines with 24:7 winning silver and ICON Moments taking home the bronze.

Popular women's magazines Her World, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and Female, tied for the silver in the new Fashion Magazine of the Year category.

Not to be outdone, also won a silver award in the Online Magazine of the Year category, another new category.

Mr Loh Yew Seng, chief executive officer of SPH Magazines, paid tribute to the talent behind its products. 'We will continue to ensure that our magazines achieve the highest standards that our readers and advertisers expect of us, not just in Singapore but also in the region,' he said.

This is the second year that the MPAS has given out the Magazine Awards to honour the best in local publishing. There were 17 categories, including four special awards such as New Magazine of the Year, Chinese Language Magazine of the Year and Online Magazine of the Year.

The judges looked at editorial content, design and creativity, photography, print production, advertising and marketing, digital media and overall magazine standards.

SPH Magazines - which has more than 100 titles in its stable - also saw ZbBz, its new high-end lifestyle magazine published monthly by Singapore Press Holdings' Chinese Newspapers Division, win two awards.

ZbBz, which was launched last October, won a silver award for Chinese Language Magazine of the Year and a bronze for Luxury Magazine of the Year.
