PROMINENT lawyer Lucien Wong has been appointed a non-executive independent director of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and a member of the media group's audit committee.

Commenting on the appointment, the board said it has considered the Nominating Committee's assessment of Mr Wong's qualifications, experience and independence, as well as its recommendations. The board is also satisfied with the value that Mr Wong can contribute to the company.

Mr Wong has been the managing partner of Allen & Gledhill since Sept 1, 1998. In addition to the practice of law, he is responsible for the management of the firm.

Having led some of the most high-profile corporate and commercial transactions undertaken in recent years in Singapore, Mr Wong was recently named as one of Asia's top 25 M&A (merger and acquisition) lawyers by the Asian Legal Business, the only Singapore lawyer to join the prestigious list of in-demand dealmakers.

He is currently serving as a non-executive director of three other listed companies – Cerebos Pacific, Hap Seng Plantations Holdings Berhad, and Singapore Airlines.

Mr Wong is also chairman of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and a board member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
