THE managing partner of Allen & Gledhill has been appointed a non-executive director of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH).

Mr Lucien Wong, a highly sought-after mergers and acquisitions (M&A) lawyer here, will be a member of the audit committee.

The 56-year-old dealmaker was just named among Asia's top 25 M&A lawyers by the Asian Legal Business – the only Singapore lawyer to join the prestigious list.

Mr Wong has led a team on the $4.25 billion share sale of Tuas Power to China Huaneng, as well as Lion Power Holdings' purchase of Senoko from Temasek for $3.65 billion.

He holds directorships in a number of listed companies, including Cerebos Pacific and Singapore Airlines. He is also chairman of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and a board member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Earlier this month, SPH announced that Mr Philip Pillai had stepped down as a director and a member of the audit committee with effect from Sept 30.

Mr Pillai resigned to take up his new appointment as Judicial Commissioner in the Supreme Court of Singapore.

The SPH audit committee will now comprise chairman Yeo Ning Hong, and three other members – Mr Wong, Mr Willie Cheng and Mr Ngiam Tong Dow.
