THE periodicals arm of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has added a movie magazine to its stable of glossy publications.

SPH Magazines (SPHM) yesterday announced that it is acquiring FiRST Movie Magazine from Sterne and Lears Singapore.

SPHM, which will take over the publishing of FiRST on Sept 1, said the purchase marked a milestone in its vision to grow and expand its suite of titles.

'FiRST Movie Magazine has incredible potential,' said Mr David Tay, chief executive of SPHM.

FiRST's content is focused and has universal appeal that cuts across age, gender and nationality - a powerful point in the company's aim to take it regional, he added.

The company is currently the leading magazine publisher in Singapore, with titles such as Her World and Citta Bella.

FiRST is sold in Singapore and Malaysia and counts professionals and managers among its core readership.

It is also stocked on all Singapore Airlines flights.

Its editor-in-chief, Mr Royston Loh, said: 'We are confident that FiRST Movie Magazine will reach new heights under SPHM as it has strong expertise, a wide network and reliable infrastructure.'
