SINGAPORE Press Holdings' efforts to improve its online offerings have paid off, with the media group clinching seven awards at the second Hitwise Online Performance Awards held last night.

The winners were selected by Hitwise, an online measurement company which monitors over 800,000 websites worldwide and uses authenticated statistics to determine the most popular websites for the calendar year.

Zaobao.com, the Internet edition of SPH's Chinese flagship daily Lianhe Zaobao, continued to clinch the top spot in the News and Media - Print category. It has more than four million page views every day, with 85 per cent of them from China.

AsiaOne Multimedia, a site which produces five video clips a week with focus on lifestyle content, won the Entertainment - Multimedia category.

'We are delighted to add another feather in our cap, especially since the additional award has been clinched by our fledgling multimedia team, which began video production only towards the end of May 2006,' said Irene Ngoo, editor of AsiaOne.

AsiaOne Wine, Dine, and Unwind, a comprehensive food and drinks guide, retained its top spot in the Food and Beverage - Lifestyle and Reference category.

AsiaOne Horoscopes, which provides daily readings of Chinese zodiac and Sun Sign horoscope, shone in the Lifestyle - New Age category.

Hardware Zone, recently acquired by SPH Magazines, clinched three awards, including one for the News & Media - IT Media category. This affirms SPH Magazines CEO Loh Yew Seng's belief that Hardware Zone will strengthen the company's position as the publisher of choice in the region.

Jackie Lee, CEO of Hardware Zone, added: 'We would like to thank our readers, viewers and supporters for making us No 1 yet again.'

Summing up, SPH CEO Alan Chan said: 'Our plethora of products caters to the various needs of our readers and we will continue to engage them with new innovations.'

This is the second time that the Hitwise Online Performance Awards was held in Singapore.

Last year, SPH was bestowed four accolades at the inaugural awards ceremony.
