SINGAPORE Press Holdings' (SPH) efforts to boost online content were recognised yesterday as it won seven awards given out by a company which monitors more than 800,000 websites around the world.

Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao's website - which boasts more than four million page views a day - retained its top spot in the news and media category of the Hitwise Online Performance Awards.

Mr Zheng Wei, editor of, said his team launched several new features, including columns from correspondents and political cartoons.

'We aim to launch our interactive zone and daily newsletter in March. I believe that will bring us to greater heights,' he said.

Another winner for SPH was AsiaOne Multimedia, which came out tops in the entertainment-multimedia category. The website produces five video clips a week on topics ranging from food to the arts to business.

AsiaOne Wine, Dine and Unwind won in the food and beverage-lifestyle and reference category, while AsiaOne Horoscopes took the honours in the lifestyle-new age segment.

SPH's newly acquired online portal, Hardware Zone, clinched three awards - one in the news and media-IT media category and two for its online forum.

This is SPH's second big year at the New York-based Hitwise's awards - last year, it won in four categories.

SPH chief executive officer Alan Chan said yesterday: 'The awards encourage us to keep improving our news content and online initiatives. Our plethora of products caters to the various needs of our readers and we will continue to engage them with new innovations.'
