SPH Magazines, part of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), is formally taking four recently acquired magazines under its wing.

The four magazines are Inside Golf, motoring publication Carma, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) magazine Just U and Jetstar Asia magazine Jetaway.

All four publications come under the SPH Magazines umbrella starting today, the company said yesterday.

All four were previously published by Heritage Media, a subsidiary of Hardware Zone (HWZ).

HWZ, a media company, was acquired by SPH Magazines in October last year and is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of the firm.

'We could only ascertain the viability and strengths in consolidating these titles under SPH Magazines now, hence the timing,' said Ms Angeline Lee, the head of corporate communications at SPH Magazines.

SPH Magazines now has more than 90 titles under its wing, including those published in other countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and China.

HWZ's chief executive, Mr Jackie Lee, said the move to consolidate the magazines under SPH Magazines is aimed at achieving ' immediate economies of scale'.

Inside Golf editor Tan Ju Kuang said: 'My colleagues and I are very excited to become part of the SPH Magazines team. We will now have better resources to produce even better quality magazines for our readers.'

Inside Golf is a prestigious magazine on golf and lifestyle, providing coverage on issues on the sport such as instruction and equipment.

Like Inside Golf, Carma also targets a niche market - in this case, that of the car-crazy motoring enthusiast, with a key audience aged 25 to 45 years.

Just U is the NTUC bi-monthly lifestyle magazine for members and selected executives. Jetaway is published on behalf of Jetstar Asia. Its publishing contract will expire in two months' time.

Currently, Inside Golf and Carma each have 20,000 in circulation, while Just U circulates 150,000 copies.

SPH Magazines hopes to increase circulation numbers and advertising revenue.

SPH Magazines chief executive Loh Yew Seng said: 'This consolidation of all lifestyle and custom publishing titles under one roof will certainly bring in a wealth of content and talent which mean more efficiencies.

'With these invaluable assets, we can respond more effectively to our advertisers and business partners to meet the evolving market demands.'
