A NEW Singapore Internet portal offering bilingual news and entertainment has been officially launched amid strong interest.
The portal at www.omy.sg had attracted more than 6,500 registrations - even before it was accessible publicly at midnight last night.
Set up by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), the portal offers 12 free channels of news and entertainment content. They draw on Singapore's four Chinese-language dailies and magazines such as UW.
The portal's strength, said omy editor Chua Chim Kang, is its ability to report the news from different angles, and its high level of interactivity with its target audience aged 18 to 35.
The website aims to ensure that Internet users not wholly conversant in Mandarin will be able to enjoy its content. Its navigation buttons will be in both English and Chinese, and readers can click on a special 'text-to-speech' key to have omy's articles read out to them.
