SINGAPORE Press Holdings (SPH) is partnering Yellow Pages Singapore to promote ZapCode - a digital marketing platform launched by SPH's unit, SPH NewMedia.

Come September, 1.4 million households and businesses in Singapore will receive their new edition of Yellow Pages' buying guide with thousands of colourful ZapCode images.

SPH senior executive vice-president of marketing Leslie Fong said: 'Advertisers are seeking different platforms from which to connect to their customers ... This presents a cost-effective tool for advertisers to get their message across.'

ZapCode allows users to download discount coupons, ring tones and wall paper to their mobile phones.

The technology works by linking the interactive advertisements to a remote computer using a special type of barcode.

Shoppers point mobile phones at the ad and take a snapshot of this code - called a ZapCode.

They then send it to the remote computer, which sends back a picture, video or website link to their phone.

Now, promotions featuring the code are found in newspapers, magazines and cinemas, among others. Soon, they will also appear in places such as schools, shopping centres and pubs.
