IT'S a near sweep - Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) websites and portals such as Stomp, HardwareZone and ST701 have come up tops in new reports by global online research specialists Nielsen Online and Hitwise.

In the Hitwise Top 10 Awards, SPH tops nine categories in the quarter from July to September. In particular, its
websites dominated the News and Media - Print category, taking nine out of the top 10 rankings.

Citizen-journalism website Stomp's section, Singapore Seen, is ranked No. 1 in the Lifestyle - Blogs and Personal Websites category.

Stomp editor Serene Siew said: "We are most grateful to our eyes and ears on the ground - the Singapore citizens who enable readers to see the real Singapore."

ST701, an e-marketplace, is tops in the Shopping and Classifieds - Classifieds section. Its market share for the category is now close to 40 per cent.

AsiaOne's retained its top spot for the second quarter since its May launch. It now has
a market share of more than 20 per cent in the Food and Beverage - Lifestyle and Reference category.

In the weekly top 10 sites audited by Nielsen Online, SPH portals took six of the top 10 spots for local sites, based on domestic page impressions from Nov 3 to 9.

Mr Felix Soh, digital media editor of SPH's English and Malay Newspapers Division, said: "SPH's results clearly show that our portals are the ones users go to for reliable and timely news and information.

"This is a result of the strong synergy between our print editorial colleagues and us in the new-media units."
