EFFORTS by Singapore Press Holdings to stake its claim in cyberspace have paid off, with its websites attracting record numbers of page views and unique visitors last month.

Data from Nielsen's Site Census shows that SPH's Internet strategy of investing and occupying new-media spaces appears to be on the right track.

ST.com, which was relaunched last August with a free breaking-news section, has been attracting new readers.

Month-on-month, its page views grew 24.4 per cent, and readers on average are spending 20 per cent more time on the site. ST.com's sister websites also logged record numbers. For example, AsiaOne, the news portal that aggregates the entire suite of the company's websites, saw a 20 per cent increase in page views and 13.4 per cent climb in unique visitors.

More is on the way for online readers. ST.com editor Joanne Lee said: 'By mid-next week we will have a special microsite called Overcoming the storm with confidence, tailored to address SMEs' concerns and help them learn survival strategies.'

Stomp and Razor TV, SPH's new web-television initiative, will be introduced as iPhone applications over the next few months. And similar applications will be worked on for all mobile operating systems, not just Apple.
